Joy: Beauty is a Gift

“Every good gift, every perfect gift, comes from above.” -James 1:17

The crunch of leaves underfoot, the riot of color in waving petunias, overhearing a giggle shared between young siblings. There are many ways that beauty breaks into the ordinary of our lives.

Something given voluntarily without payment in return.

Something bestowed or acquired without any particular effort by the recipient

These are a few of the ways the dictionary defines a gift. Consider how beauty is a gift in your life. When have you been moved by an unexpected gesture, experience or item that was beautiful in some way?

Receive the gift of beauty today by taking a few minutes to admire the sunrise, sunset (or change of sky if there is extensive cloud cover).

Some Comfort and Joy was developed as a devotional resource that follows the rhythms and seasons of the liturgical year from an Anabaptist-Mennonite perspective.
